About This Site:
“Friends of Father Dominic” is a group
whose mission it is to help Father Dominic Baffour-Akowuah implement his vision of building an elementary school in his
hometown in Ghana.
Throughout this site, we have endeavored to provide an overview of the
work Fr. Dominic has done in the past, as well as highlight and detail his
plans for future development of education facilities, including the
construction of an elementary school in his village.
Fr. Dominic’s lifelong
dream is to educate the children of his small village, known as
Ampabame II, located in the Ashanti Region of
Ghana. This dream has come to be known to many of us as “Dominic’s Dream”.
Unlike priests here in the United States, priests in Ghana are not paid.
Fr. Dominic’s visits to the U.S. have allowed him to earn a bit of money,
which in turn he has donated to his various ministries in Ghana. By 2003,
Fr. Dominic had accumulated sufficient funds to undertake and complete the
Library Project. He was also able to provide
used computers, monitors and printers (donated by friends in the United
States and others) to equip the library for student use. For further
details, please go to How You Can Help elsewhere in
this site.
This website was designed and created by Andrew
J. Fama, a parishioner of
St. Ambrose Church
(Irondequoit, NY) and, during the summer months, Church of the
Epiphany/Mission of St. Rose (Sodus/ Sodus Point, NY) for the sole purpose
of sustaining the efforts of Father Dominic to educate the children of
Ampabame II School in Father’s native Ghana.
"I have known Father Dominic personally for over 15 years. As anyone who
has come to know Fr. Dominic can attest, he is passionate in his faith and
generous in love and sacrifice to the many hundreds of us whose lives he
has touched.
We hope that you are able to enjoy and appreciate the information set out
in this site and that you will generously and prayerfully contribute to
this worthy cause as envisioned by our dear friend and brother in Christ,
Father Dominic." -AJF |
