How You Can Help: One of the greatest benefits of making a contribution to “Dominic’s Dream” is that one dollar in U.S. funds is the equivalent of almost ten dollars when invested directly in a project such as that being undertaken by Father Dominic in Ghana. The proposed school construction project would cost approximately $500,000 to complete in the U.S., but in Ghana, this project can be done for one-tenth of the cost, or approximately $50,000. This is due to the significantly lower cost of both capital and labor in Ghana. There is also the additional benefit of having substantial numbers of local residents offer their voluntary contributions of time and energy in seeing this project through to its ultimate completion. It is not uncommon for the entire population of the village and surrounding areas to “pitch in” when a large project, one which is of great importance to the community at large (as this is), is undertaken. In addition, once a building is constructed, there are far fewer operating costs than in the U.S. For example, things such as heating, air conditioning, insurance and principal and interest payments on a mortgage do not exist. Finally, since labor costs are so low, the school could be staffed at a cost of approximately 5% of the cost in the U.S. Please follow this link, Donations and Pledges to learn how you can contribute funds to help Father Dominic construct the new elementary school in Ampabame. |
